Adrian Adams | Creative Director
Founder and Creative Director of JABA, Adrian is one of Adelaide's pre-eminent graphic designers. His professional highlights began back in the heady days of Adelaide Festival Centre musicals and now include: the 1996 Adelaide Festival marketing campaign (remember the burning Hills Hoist poster?); promotion of the 2000 Sydney Olympics; the Centenary of Federation production 'Connecting the Continent'; and the creation of iconic brands for Coopers, Austereo, North Adelaide Football Club and many others.
Since launching his studio in the 1980's Adrian has led the way in the evolution of digital design: from CD-ROM technology (winning the Adelaide Art Directors Master's Chair and the ATOM Award for best educational product) to website development, to the ‘new-web’ era of mobile Responsive Design.
Contracted to the Organising Committee for the Sydney Olympic Games, he designed electronic marketing materials for the Olympic Arts Festivals - Festival of the Dreaming, A Sea Change and Reaching the World - producing posters, websites, television graphics, interactive kiosks, electronic speaker supports and all print media.
Appointed Creative Director for South Australia’s Millennium Event Click! - involving 16 simultaneous events across the state on New Year's Eve – Adrian brought the whole of SA together, linking live images from remote celebrations around the state via the internet, displayed on the giant Clipsal Super Screen in Victoria Square in front of 300,000 people.
He received a Centenary Medal for the Centenary of Federation production Connecting the Continent, creating a massive virtual tour of the 3,600km route of the original Overland Telegraph. Featuring more than 600 virtual reality scenes, interviewing hundreds of colourful outback characters and connecting remote communities with the world, the site attracted millions of hits in just 3 weeks and is still used in schools as an educational resource.
Adrian designed and produced the highly-acclaimed Cross-cultural Training Guide for Newmont, one of the world's largest gold mining companies, featuring 16 hours of recorded audio interviews with indigenous people from remote lands.
He designed/produced all marketing materials for the 2004 Adelaide Festival, working with Artistic Director Stephen Page to create imagery based around the theme of a ‘meeting place' – symbolised in Western cultures by a cross, in indigenous cultures by circles. The poster design incorporated both these elements and created an opportunity for the event's major sponsor, Adelaide Bank, to integrate their logo with the new image, using animation.
Adrian continues to produce engaging digital designs for a wide range of high-profile clients such as Network Ten, Bridgestone, South Australian Tourism Commission, Sydney Olympic Park Authority, South Australian Farmers Federation, Australian Made, Music SA, Adelaide Crows, Adelaide 36ers and the North Adelaide Football Club.
He is continually excited by the ever evolving challenges of the digital age.
