The Problem

The AdaptWest project was founded on the Climate Change Adaptation Plan developed by the Western Alliance in 2016, but the initiative had no website at all, and no established brand to represent it. As a start up organisation formed across three councils, AdaptWest needed to build an identity and an online presence from nothing, one capable of promoting its environmental ambitions and encouraging real community involvement in climate adaptation across the region.

What JABA Built

AdaptWest required JABA's consultation throughout the process of developing their brand, content and website. The project included the development of AdaptWest's branding and style, which utilises beautiful blue and yellow themes symbolising hot and cold temperatures. The website design included content development and copywriting tailored specifically to the AdaptWest project, along with other projects within the Western Alliance region for 2019 and beyond.

The website design was customised to reflect the branding developed by JABA, resulting in a site that is uplifting and promotes user engagement and community involvement. A Google Translator feature was also added to enable all individuals within the local community to get involved, regardless of language.

What Was Technically Interesting

The website development project also involved a live feed urban heat map and thermal imaging of the Western Alliance region. This unique feature helps users understand, in real time, the severity of the climate issues the Western Alliance faces, turning an abstract policy initiative into something residents could see and understand directly on the site.

Business Outcome

The completed website gave AdaptWest its first ever digital presence, a distinct brand identity, and a platform capable of promoting climate adaptation initiatives to residents across the Charles Sturt, Port Adelaide Enfield and West Torrens council areas. The live heat map and translator feature help ensure the site remains accessible and engaging for the whole community, supporting AdaptWest's ongoing environmental ambitions.

Why JABA Was Chosen

As a brand new, multi-council initiative, AdaptWest needed a partner who could build a brand and a website from the ground up, and consult closely throughout that process rather than simply execute a brief. JABA's ability to combine branding, copywriting and custom technical features like the live heat map into one cohesive project made JABA the right fit for an organisation starting completely from scratch.
