The Problem

The brief called for a modern, mobile responsive website with a battery matcher, a returns form and an online shop with customisation. Behind that sit two problems specific to this industry. Batteries are a fitment product: a customer with a boat or a vehicle does not want to browse a catalogue, they want the one battery that suits their application, and getting it wrong means a return rather than a sale. And BSA operates through a national branch network across every state and territory, which makes a single national checkout the wrong answer, because batteries are heavy freight and customers are best served by the supplier closest to them.

What JABA Built

JABA delivered the project on the CMSv7 Progressive Web App platform, with customised components built specifically for BSA. The battery matcher and returns form streamline the process for customers looking for a specific marine or auto battery, or needing to return one that is not right for them. The shop customisation allows customers to purchase from their own state supplier through a quick and simple process. BSA also gained control of their own platform, able to sell, add products and update the website themselves through the content management system.

What Was Technically Interesting

The state-based supplier routing is the piece that makes this more than a standard online shop. Most e-commerce sends every order to one place; here the platform has to work out which branch should fulfil an order and present the customer with the right supplier, which affects pricing, stock and delivery all at once. For heavy freight in particular, that routing is the difference between a viable online sale and one that costs more to ship than it earns. The battery matcher solves the other half of the problem, at the front of the process rather than the back. Guided selection turns a technical fitment question into a few simple inputs, which both increases conversion, because the customer reaches a confident decision, and reduces returns, because fewer people order the wrong unit. Pairing it with a proper returns form means the returns that do happen are handled through a structured process rather than a phone call and a manual record.

Business Outcome

BSA has more power in their own hands: a platform they control, where products can be added and content updated without waiting on a developer. Customers get a faster path to the right battery and a straightforward returns process if they need one, and orders flow to the appropriate state supplier automatically. For a distributor operating across a national branch network, that combination turns a website into a working sales channel rather than a catalogue with a contact form.

Why JABA Was Chosen

JABA had already worked with BSA on their BSA Power website before being engaged to transform the main Battery Specialties Australia online presence. A client returning for their primary platform after a first project is the most practical endorsement there is.
