The Problem

Midsec approached JABA seeking a website design that was fresh and modern, which is harder than it sounds in financial services. Advisory firms have to look credible and established while avoiding the interchangeable corporate stock imagery the entire category defaults to, and they operate under content requirements that most businesses never encounter, where certain material must be published at specific times. Beyond the public site, there was a second, more demanding requirement: clients wanting direct access to their own investment portfolios, which means handling sensitive financial data at a security standard the sector rightly expects.

 

What JABA Built

JABA created a distinctive design built around customised banners showcasing the cube theme from Midsec's new style guide, carried through in modernised tiles, with the focus placed on the people at Midsec and the people they help rather than on generic finance imagery. The content management system includes a publish timer, allowing updates to be scheduled precisely for special offers, events and information that must go live at particular times of the day or night. Customised login functions were added through sub-domains that maintain the styling of the new style guide. JABA has since built an app connected to the site, giving Midsec clients direct access to their investment portfolios with the latest performance indicators and more, delivered on a Progressive Web App platform with high levels of security.

 

What Was Technically Interesting

Two features stand out, and both solve problems specific to financial services. The publish timer exists because timing genuinely matters in this sector: information that must appear at a set moment cannot depend on someone being at a desk to press publish, and scheduling it removes both the risk and the after-hours work. The client portfolio app is the more substantial piece. Delivering live investment performance data to clients means authentication, data protection and secure transport at a standard appropriate to financial information, and building it as a PWA rather than a native app means clients get app-like access from any device without Midsec funding and maintaining separate builds for each platform. Extending the brand styling into sub-domains for the login areas is a smaller detail that matters more than it appears: a client moving from the public site into a secure portal that looks like a different company is a moment of doubt, exactly where trust is least affordable.

 

Business Outcome

Midsec has a public site that reflects their style guide and leads with people rather than stock imagery, scheduled publishing that removes manual timing work, and a secure client app that gives investors direct visibility of their own portfolios. Self-service access to performance information reduces routine enquiries to advisers while giving clients the transparency they increasingly expect, which is a service improvement and an efficiency gain at the same time.
