- Location: Northern Australia

The Problem
NAAKPA exists to provide stability and confidence to the Kakadu Plum supply chain, supporting Aboriginal enterprises in delivering this superfood to the world while protecting Indigenous cultural knowledge. That mission asks a lot of a website. It has to sell product to ethical buyers, serve as a working hub for member enterprises, communicate the cultural and commercial significance of the fruit to an audience that mostly does not know it exists, and do all of that without reducing Traditional Owner knowledge to marketing material. The Alliance also needed a brand identity that could carry that weight, credible to international buyers and respectful of the communities it represents.
What JABA Built
JABA developed a Progressive Web App with a fully integrated online shop, designed to handle both domestic and international orders with fast, smooth transactions across all devices. Alongside it, JABA crafted a brand identity highlighting NAAKPA's commitment to ethical supply chains and the cultural heritage of Australia's Aboriginal people, so that the Alliance's dedication to sustainable and culturally respectful practice is visible from the first impression rather than buried in an about page. The platform also functions as a hub for member enterprises, supporting food safety training, advocacy and capacity building, and allowing members to share resources and strengthen their Traditional Owner-led commercial supply chains.
What Was Technically Interesting
This platform serves three distinct audiences from one build: retail customers buying product, member enterprises using it as a shared resource and support hub, and international buyers assessing NAAKPA as a supply partner. Each needs different content, different depth and a different journey through the site, and the PWA structure keeps all three fast without splitting them into separate systems. The online shop was built for export from the outset rather than adapted for it later, which matters for a business whose growth depended on reaching markets beyond Australia. The copywriting carried its own challenge: explaining the health properties of Kakadu Plum, including its exceptional vitamin C and antioxidant levels, while also covering the protection of Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property and the real barriers Aboriginal communities face in commercialising bushfoods. That is education, commerce and advocacy in the same body of content, and getting the balance right is harder than any of the three on its own.
Business Outcome
NAAKPA achieved Approved Wildlife Trade Operation status and commenced exports in 2024, with the platform equipped to support global demand for Kakadu Plum and connect ethical buyers directly with Aboriginal-run enterprises. The result is a digital presence that does commercial work and mission work at the same time: revenue flows back toward Traditional Owners and their communities, while the cultural knowledge behind the product stays protected rather than being given away as marketing content.
