SARVRA | Membership Management System & Advocacy PWA

JABA built a Progressive Web App with a fully customised Membership Management System for the South Australian Retirement Villages Residents Association, supporting more than 5,000 members.

Project Snapshot

  • Client: South Australian Retirement Villages Residents Association (SARVRA)
  • Industry: Not-for-Profit, Advocacy & Member Associations
  • Location: South Australia
  • Services Delivered: PWA / Website Development, Custom Membership Management System
  • Scale: Platform supporting a membership base of more than 5,000

The Problem

SARVRA represents South Australians living in retirement villages, providing resources, information and advocacy within Government and the retirement village industry. Two things made their platform requirements unusual. First, the membership administration: managing joins, renewals and fee tracking across thousands of members is a significant workload for an association, and every hour spent on manual admin is an hour not spent on advocacy. Second, the audience. A membership platform aimed at retirement village residents cannot be designed for people comfortable with complicated web interfaces, and if signing up or renewing online is confusing, members simply will not do it.

What JABA Built

JABA designed and built a comprehensive Progressive Web App featuring a fully customised Membership Management System. Members can join, renew and manage their memberships online, with membership fees tracked seamlessly, reminders automated and a streamlined sign-up process for new members. The platform also works as a central resources and support hub, giving members up-to-date information and advice on policy changes, retirement village regulations and conflict resolution, and highlighting SARVRA's ongoing work lobbying for policy change within Government and the industry. Announcements and event schedules keep members current on the Association's initiatives. The interface was designed specifically with SARVRA's older demographic in mind: easy to navigate and fully optimised for mobile, so it works from any device.

What Was Technically Interesting

Membership management is one of those systems that is invisible when it works and consumes an organisation when it does not. Building it as a custom system rather than adapting off-the-shelf software meant the renewal cycle, fee structure and reminder logic could follow how SARVRA actually operates instead of forcing the Association to reshape its processes around generic software. Automating renewal reminders is the highest-value piece: lapsed memberships in an advocacy organisation are not just lost revenue, they are lost negotiating power, because the Association's influence with Government and industry is directly proportional to how many residents it can say it speaks for. The design constraint was equally important. Building for an older demographic means larger targets, clearer language, simpler flows and fewer steps between intention and completion, and every point of friction in an online sign-up costs members who would otherwise have joined.

Business Outcome

SARVRA can support and advocate for its 5,000-plus members more effectively, with membership administration automated rather than absorbing time that belongs to representation work. Making it straightforward to join and renew supports growth in the membership base, and a larger membership directly strengthens SARVRA's voice within Government and the retirement village industry. Members get a single reliable place to find current information on the regulations and policy changes affecting their homes.
